Francesca Lanzavecchia is one half of Lanzavecchia+Wai, a studio based in Italy and Singapore. She was trained as an industrial designer in polytechnico di milano. She then earned her masters degree in design academy in Eindhoven, which was where she met Hunn Wai, her partner in the studio. The studio’s projects reflect a need to speak about cultural problems. Their process is deeply oriented in empathy, human context and cultural research, occaisonally collaborating with traditional craftsmen. Recently, the studio was awarded the title “Best Young Talent” of 2014 by Elle Decor.
“Design is a way of speaking. Design is a way to communicate what is relevant to us. Design is a way to make it tangible to others.”
"You need to know culture to make something that is relevant for the life of today... not just something for the tourists of yesterday.”
This interview was conducted by Sonya Spowage and Liam Leyland
